In 2015, the plight of the Monarch Butterfly received national attention and as a result, raised awareness of the importance of planting native milkweed to increase their habitat.
Ohio Prairie Nursery responded with the introduction of several new Monarch and pollinator related products. We also kicked off the "You Plant, We Plant" program where we matched the total quantity of milkweed website sales with an equal amount that we would plant. Your response and support was significant, and as a result, created more habitat for the Monarch Butterfly. We knew we could count on you!
The program wrapped up at the end of 2015, and we now have milkweed seed available to share and plant. Here's what we're looking for...
If you are a primary school science teacher, involved with scouting or a non-profit organization involved in environmental education or outreach you qualify as a recipient for Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca). We ask that you write us a proposal including:
Ohio Prairie Nursery will review all proposals received and make our selections based on response. Common Milkweed seed does best when it's planted in the fall when it can take advantage of those cooler soil temperatures and go through its natural stratification process. Accepting proposals now will give you time to prep your area if you are selected to receive the seed.
We will be accepting proposals through July 31, 2016 and if you are selected, the seed will ship out to you early fall. Please email your proposals to firstname.lastname@example.org or via mail to:
