National Honeybee Day is this Saturday, August 20, 2016! It's a great day to celebrate honeybees and the hard work they do pollinating so many flowers.
Ohio Prairie Nursery has partnered with several different bee focused organizations, including the Ohio State Beekeepers Association. We worked with them to develop the Pollinator Oasis Seed Packet. This mix is comprised of 100% native wildflowers and provides nourishment for pollinators spring through fall. If you are looking for a way to support pollinators, this mix is a stellar way to start. It includes a blend of annuals, biennials, and perennials, and was designed to produce blooms the first growing season. In addition to supporting honeybees, a huge diversity of native pollinators will also benefit from the pollen and nectar provided by these plants.
You can also celebrate National Honeybee Day by attending local events. If you are in Northeast Ohio, the Cleveland Botanical Garden is offering honeybee related activites. For all of our friends outside Northeast Ohio, here is a list of national activities. If you cannot attend any events, make an effort to taste some local honey (yum!) or burn a beeswax candle in their honor.
