Highway BEE Act

December 17, 2014

In December 2014, we signed the Highway BEE Act as part of the ongoing effort to help create pollinator and other wildlife habitats in highway right-of-ways. We've always stressed the importance of creating wildlife and pollinator habitat in your own backyard with native plants as opposed to traditional landscaping and now organizations, companies and researchers can sign this petition to help transition traditional turf roadsides to homes for pollinators and other small wildlife.

Ohio has already begun creating native plant habitats with the Bee Pollinator Habitat Project. You can read more about the project, which launched Fall 2013, here.

If you want to get involved, you can read and sign the petition here. Remember, the easiest way to help pollinators and other wildlife is to plant native seed right in your own backyard. Once you see your efforts come to fruition and you know you are landscaping with a purpose, it easy to pass the message on to others. Native plants are beautiful and beneficial....spread the word and PRAIRIE ON!
