I Dig Gardeners...

May 3, 2017

By Barb Holtz

...Especially when they congregate to champion native plants and pollinators! I had the pleasure of spending last Saturday with Twinsburg Garden Club and 70ish folks at the Native Plants: Gardening witha Purpose event. My task? Host an Ohio Prairie Nursery table and offer a presentation on seeding native plant gardens. That sounds typical and mundance. It was neither of those things.

People came pumped to be the change and landscape differently. People came ripe to purchase plants and seeds, and hit the ground running. People came curious to discover more about bees, birds, blooms, swifts and seeds. People came with smiles on their faces and garden stories to tell. People came ready to transform yards for their own pleasure but also for something bigger. For the planet we call home.

Invigorated and primed, these event goers heard the call to leave 1940s turf-laden, suburban scenery in the past. Let's go back to our roots, and those of native flora, and create natural oases with benefit and beauty.

P.S. Many thanks to the Twinsburg Garden Club for their hospitality and organzing such an awesome event!
