Oenothera biennis - Evening Primrose

Evening Primrose is an erect native biennial or occasionally perennial wildflower rising up to 6 feet in height on a generally unbranched stem. The stem is green with some reddish tones, ridged and usually pubescent.

The somewhat fragrant yellow flowers open in the evening and close by noon.

The plant has a branching taproot and spreads most often by reseeding. It grows best in full sun and a medium to dry soil moisture.

Adaptable to many areas such as roadsides, banks, open fields and prairies. Found throughout the United States and Canada.
