Twelve Days of a Prairie Christmas

December 20, 2017

Show of Hands...Who enjoys the radio stations' blessing of non-stop Christmas carols starting in November? Or does it start after Halloween? I LOVE Christmas carols, but at Christmas. I LOVE Christmas caroling but generally cringe when Twelve Days of Christmas is suggested. (That said, I'm pretty proud that I know the words by heart.)

One day while driving and singing along to holiday tunes, I thought, "What if a prairie gave 12 Christmas gifts?" Said prairie would promise gifts to come - blooms, butterflies, birds and bees. Said prairie's gifts would be promises of warmer times. Said prairie's gifts would be ones of anticipation and hope.

Winter is wonderful in and of itself, but it also allows for new growth to come. I hope you enjoy my rendition of Twelve Days of a Prairie Christmas.

Peace and Joy,

Barb

On the first day of Christmas my prairie promised me:

A Goldfinch on a Cup Plant!

On the second day of Christmas my prairie promised me:

2 Milkweed Pods and a Goldfinch on a Cup Plant!

(You know the drill, but I'll cut to the chase....)

On the twelfth day of Christmas my prairie promised me:

12 Evening Bloomers

11 Less Invasives

10 Kinds of Aster

9 Bluestems Swaying

8 Bees a-buzzing

7 Perfumed Petals

6 Monarchs Laying

5 Pounds of Seed!

4 Hummingbirds

3 Lupine

2 Milkweed Pods

and a Goldfinch on a Cup Plant!
